The Alfa Romeo 33 (Type 905 and 907) is a small family car produced by the Italian automaker Alfa Romeo between 1983 and 1995. From a mechanical standpoint it was essentially an evolution of its predecessor, the Alfasud, whose floorpan, chassis and drivetrain were carried over—albeit with modifications to the suspension and braking system.

Apart from the original Alfa 33 gearbox you can fit an Alfa 145/146 1.3 or 1.6 boxer one. These have reinforced synhcro hubs on 1st and 2nd gears, but the final drive ratio is "shorter" compared to the 33 gearbox. The selector rod joint is also slightly different between these two boxes. Any other gearbox will require a custom adapter plate.

A rough list of what I either have done or am going to do during the rebuild: - completely stripped down the engine block, throttle bodies and heads. - new gaskets, seals, piston rings, bearings, filters, spark plugs, water pump. - brand new clutch and machine the flywheel. - shaved 1/2 mm off the heads.

#1 · Feb 23, 2011 Hello Folks My latest problem is that the speedometer has now decided to stop working! Investigation seems to point to the speedo-drive unit inside the gearbox; however I do have another gearbox from a 1500 'Sud in which the speedo-drive is working.
